Polish church launches prayer cycle prior to Assembly
Polish church launches prayer cycle to prepare its parishes and strengthen ties with LWF member churches in the year leading up to the Thirteenth Assembly.
Weekly prayers for each of the LWF member churches
(LWI) – A prayer cycle initiated by the host church of the Thirteenth Assembly of The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) will lead up to the event in September 2023 and continue until March 2024. Parishes of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland (ECACP) will pray for each of the 149 member churches of the LWF.
With this prayer cycle, “We want to connect our local parishes with other LWF member churches and the global Lutheran communion,” says Anna Wrzesińska, Chairperson of the Local Assembly Planning Committee (LAPC). “Others are most welcome to join us.”
Last Sunday, 4 September, the first prayers were dedicated to the brothers and sisters in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Angola. Next in line is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Botswana.
Each week, information about member churches and their countries will be sent to the ECACP parishes together with prayers written by local pastors. The prayers are also published on the church’s website.
The Thirteenth Assembly will take place in Krakow from 13 to19 September 2023. Its theme is “One Body, One Spirit, One Hope”. During the Assembly, local parishes will host delegates and other guests for church services and visits. “We also intend to make it possible for interested people from our church to participate in the Assembly, both individuals and parish groups,” explains Wrzesińska. The prayer cycle is one way of strengthening local and global ties in the coming months.
